Tony Westover

Tony Westover is the oldest of seven siblings. Tony is 12 years older than Tara making him 48 years old as of 2023.

The oldest sibling just recently left the brood after working for over a decade with his parents. According to Tony's LinkedIn profile, he worked as a manager for Butterfly Expressions from 2013 to March 2023.

However, Tony now works at Silver Creek Midstream as a Measurement Specialist in Douglas, Wyoming, United States. He has held the position since November 2021.

Tony is married to Michele Westover since April 4, 1997, and shares a daughter named Elaina Westover, according to his Facebook profile.

Travis Westover (Shawn Westover)

Tara Westover brother Shawn Westover is the nickname for his real name Travis Westover. Shawn is a pseudonym used to conceal the identity of Travis.

Shawn's real name is Travis according to The Bibliofile, he is a decade older than the author, making him 46 years old as of 2023. The siblings do not have a merry memory of their childhood, at least not according to Tara's book Educated.

She violently accuses Travis (Shawn) of pulling her hair, choking her, and even verbally abusing her while their father and mother turned a blind eye to the abuse. The claims have been disputed, by many friends and family members, but still, it is written on Educated.

Furthermore, Tara recounts in her book, when she spoke to her parents about the abuse after years and they called Shawn in to clear the air, he bought along a bloody knife to the talk. The author could not contain herself and left the premise at once.

Now, according to Deseret News, Travis is a changed man. He is married to Emily Westover.

Travis (Shawn) is all down to help everyone around him and has become a completely different person after surviving two near-fatal accidents, the author took him to the hospital and cared for him in the second instance. 

Tyler Westover

Tyler Westover is the third brother of the author. Tyler is eight years older than Tara making him 44 years old as of 2023.

Tara Westover brother Tyler was the first one to attend and graduate college among the siblings. He won a four-year full-tuition-paying scholarship at Brigham Young University to complete engineering.

Tyler is the inspiration for Tara to attend four years of college, he encouraged the author to get a scholarship and prepare for the ACT exam. He also suggested books and methods to prepare for the ACT exam.

He received his bachelor's degree from BYU and later attended Purdue University for his Master's and Doctoral degrees.

Luke Westover

Luke Westover is the fourth brother of the Educated author. Luke is six years older than Tara making him 42 years old.

The author mentions Luke getting a severe burn while working in their father's scrapyard as a kid and she recalls her mother treating him with her herbal medicines and oils at home and not taking him to the emergency room.

According to a comment left on Goodreads by Luke's elder brother Tyler, he is the only one who did not get a formal education and he had to learn difficulties making it hard for him to attend a public school.

It is unclear if Luke is still working at the scrapyard with his parents or has moved on with his life. Information about his wife and kids is also not available.

Valaree Westover (Audrey Westover)

Valaree is the only sister of the author of the memoir Educated. Valaree is introduced to the readers as Audrey in the book to conceal her identity.

Valaree is 41 years old, she is five years older than the author who is 36 years old as of 2023. Valaree and Tara are estranged and do not have regular communication as far as known.

Their relationship turned sour when Tara shared the suffering and alleged abuse from Shawn to Valaree after a day of snowboarding. Valaree then refused to have a conversation with Tara without a witness and preferred written communication.

According to Deseret News, Valaree now recalls if she had known how dangerous Tara was for trying to divide the family.

Valaree is now married to her husband Benjamin and has a lovely married life herself. She does not make much of social media appearances.

Richard Westover

Richard Westover is the second youngest among the Westover siblings. Richard is four years older than the author and is 40 years old.

Richard is another Doctorate degree holder in the family, he attended Idaho State University for his Master's Degree in Inorganic Chemistry and later went to the University of Oregon for his Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry.

The second youngest Westover sibling currently works at Intel Corporation as a Process TD Engineer, he has held the position since March 2016. Previously, Richard worked for the University of Oregon according to his LinkedIn profile.

Richard is married to his wife Kami Westover, they share four children together. Both Richard and his wife Kami share their life on social media.
